Upgrades/Retrofit

Following a mains outage and failure of an auto transfer system at a data centre we were contacted to investigate the incident and provide proposals for improving the reliability of the system.

The summation of the report indicated that a conventional control solution was inappropriate for the sensitive nature of the application, the system was vulnerable to “silent alarm failure” and that service support for the equipment was not sufficient to maintain the control aspect of the system.

The new Dual Channel Fault Tolerant control system was fitted and commissioned over a three day period without disrupting the business of the data centre. The new control equipment significantly reduced the chance of a failure and enhanced the monitoring of the entire system.

The retrofit in 2008 provided the client’s 2 data centres with a reliable electricity supply but also matched his plans to expand with a additional Tier 3 Data Centre on the same site.

In 2010 the new Tier 3 expansion was built with the mains / generator / air circuit breakers all controlled by the original system.

In 2015 two new Tier 3 data Centres are planned, again the addition functionality will be provided by the original dual channel master and slave system.
